3/25/2023 0 Comments Parasite eve ps1 game8/10 at best.I enjoyed it, but you can skip out on it. The game is played over six days, each day bringing its own quest. I replayed it last year actually when styuck home with covid for 3 weeks and going through some games - including super metroid, link to the past etc, and I would rate it. Christmas Eve is the present day, and youve decided to visit the opera theater. 10-15 hours if I remember right at most, its not hard, but the graphics isnt a selling point anymore AND some people get triggered watching the twin towers at the intro- I dont but some have. Feels like anyone can finish it, if they want to. Which also makes future parasite games a bit hard to make sequels for, unless you say the story take place early 2000´s.Īnyway, I had no issues with the game and thought it was kind of easy as well tbh. The problem with a game like parasite eve is obvious, it came out in 1998 and aimed for as realistic graphic they could produce in 1998 on a playstation 1 - what im trying to say is one of the wow factor back in 1998 was the graphics and them placing a jrpg in a modern setting in New York - yes you will visit famous locations within New York - (which ofc will be lost by todays standard) - ofc since the world trade centers are in it. Hybrid combat of action/turnbased - I liked it. It really boils down to how much you value gameplay vs story, and I think PE does both well, but it certainly excels in gameplay. It's easily one of the best JRPG's on PS1, it's top 10 for sure, maybe even top 5, although everyone has their own opinion on that. I think the game also has good music, a semi decent story, and it has a fantastic post game super dungeon with lots of replay ability to boot. Resident Evil was still better in these regards probably because of the limited ammo and the enemies being just on screen at all times in the original PS1 RE, so it was just more tense, but PE still captures that sensation of being in a dark, dangerous area with cool pre-rendered backgrounds and you always are interested what's coming up next. Think about how rare that feeling can be in other JRPG's, and it's just props to Parasite Eve for figuring out a way to make gear progression a massively appealing aspect of the gameplay itself.Įxploration and environments - It feels like Resident Evil survival horror in the best of ways. It just feels great, idk how else to say it, but literally every single time I see a new gun or armor, or some material to upgrade them, I get giddy and excited. Item upgrade systems - You get Guns and Bulletproof Vests as your two primary items and they have a pretty addictive upgrade system, and they give you new items at a very steady pace with unique effects and the ability to transfer and combine unique effects to make custom gear. Combat - It mixes elements of action gameplay (enemy attacks such as fireballs fly towards you and you can move in real time which allows for dodging stuff etc) as well as turn based (enemy attacks and your own attacks are tethered to timers so your decision making is pretty rhythmic and you know that once it's the enemies turn, you can focus on avoidance, then take your turn etc.) It's really a satisfying system that I found very very enjoyable.
